Aloha HSTA Spring 2018 Trainers –

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! The winter break is only a few weeks away - so hang in there!

Thanks for being extremely patient as we ironed out the details with OCISS regarding Spring 2018 courses.  As we mentioned in the last few emails to you, the DOE recently changed their course approval process from the Office of Human Resources (OHR) to the Office of Curriculum Instruction and Student Support (OCISS). 

OCISS is requiring that ALL courses be re-approved by their staff prior to posting on PDE3.  HSTA has submitted your course in current form to OCISS for re-approval.  More likely than not, Brooke Taira, from their office will be contacting you directly if edits are needed.   Please note that in order for your class to be offered this Spring, it will need OCISS approval, so your cooperation in promptly responding to their requests is required.  

 As we get more information from OCISS, we will pass it along.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Week 8: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Greetings Learners,

I would like to first congratulate you on making it to the final week! It has been my pleasure to facilitate this course and learn from each of you as you continue to provide leadership at your organization/institution.  Here are the final reminders:

1. Complete the Post-Course Survey: https://goo.gl/d5WpWT

2. Complete Unit 6: Post-Course Reflection

3. When your portfolio is complete, fill in the blank space at the top of the cover page with "COMPLETED" so instructors know it's ready for review.

4. Completed Portfolios are due on Thursday, November 23rd. There is no need to resubmit your portfolios links since I collected it at the beginning of the course.

5. Final Grades: I will be submitting selected portfolio PDO on Thursday, December 7 and the official course closes on Thursday, December 21! Once I hear back from PDO, I will notify you if revisions are needed and when the PD credits are posted to PDe3.

Aloha Trainers:

We hope that you're all doing well!  We wanted to send you this email to remind you that participants in your HSTA Fall 2017 course must submit their portfolios to you by November 23, 2017.

While the COURSE END DATE is December 21, we ask that you have all portfolios submitted to you on Thursday, November 23, so that you have time to grade and get revisions back.  On Thursday, December 7th, you will need to enter the final grades into PDE3 (complete or incomplete).

No extensions will be permitted on portfolios.  If a participant does not complete the portfolio appropriately or on time, please give him or her an incomplete.

Aloha HSTA PD Trainers:

We hope your school year is going well!  You are receiving this email because you are all scheduled to teach or are currently teaching a HSTA section this Fall 2017.  While we had a few staffing changes this summer, HSTA wants to assure you that we have dedicated staff and teacher leaders ready to assist you with any questions that you may have regarding the administration of your HSTA courses. Please send any questions that you have directly to Yvette Robertson, yrobertson@hsta.org or contact her directly at 840-2229.  

The Spring 2017 class schedule for HSTA is still being finalized.  Thank you for being patient.  As some of you may know, the course/section approval process for PDE3 classes has moved FROM the Office of Human Resources (OHR) TO the Office of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support (OCISS).   We are meeting with the new OCISS staff next week, and as such, will provide you with an update then about Spring 2017.  We will surely miss Soo Boo and Kevin at OHR and want to thank them again for all the help they've provided over the years. 

General Reminders: 

• The Fall 2017 portfolios are all due on the memorable date of Thursday, November 23rd, 2017 (aka Thanksgiving). Obviously, you can pick an earlier date to require portfolios to be sent to you,.

• Grades need to be inputted into PDE3 no later than Thursday, December 7th.   Once you submit the grades, names of selected participants will pop up.  You will email those selected portfolios to a staff person at PDE3 (TBD at this point and time due to changes)

• If your course hasn't started yet, please email your Wait-Lists on PDE3 to remind individuals to pay for your courses.  They must pay at pd.hsta.org.  Late registration/payments will not be accepted.  Based off of your feedback, we now allow individuals to pay and register for a course up to 24 hours prior to the start date of the course.  They need to add themselves to the wait list on PDE3, pay for the section on pd.hsta.org. Once HSTA receives the payment, we will move them from the wait-list on PDE3 to registered on PDE3.

• We will be hosting a brief virtual trainers' meeting to go over some of these administrative tasks in the month ahead, so please don't worry right now if you have questions on these items.

An important reminder, please plan accordingly as we near the portfolio due date, Thursday, November 23. If you anticipate needing additional time to submit any outstanding work after Thursday, November 23, please let me know. Keep in mind meeting the portfolio deadline allows you to receive PD credits when the course closes. To ensure you receive the PD credits by this semester, I strongly encourage you to complete the portfolio on time.

This week, I suggest you test out the whole presentation from start to finish before your presentation. Try to get a friend, family member, or colleague to help you out with this so you can get feedback afterward. Or you can just pretend to be a participant on another computer and self-reflect on any necessary changes. This is a great opportunity to check that the web tools work, all the resources and links work and that you are able to record the session.
