Greetings all-

I hope you are preparing for a lovely Christmas break!

At this point, you have received revisions for your courses. Thanks very much for working on those, and for understanding that it's all in an effort to get the courses approved as smoothly and quickly as possible.

A couple issues that are consistently showing up across courses for you to consider as you revise:

1. For a 3-credit course, you must show impact on student learning in the classroom. It will be difficult to get a 3-credit course approved without implementation of what is learned in the course shown through actual lessons, student work samples, and analysis of student work. The only way to get around this will be to offer a 2-credit course or offer the course for no credit. This has been communicated via the EO who gives final approval, so just a heads up.

2. You must include course competencies. In PDE3, these are in a drop-down menu that I realize you can no longer view. For this component, please send me how your course connects to INTASC or the 2013/2014 Danielson Framework. Be selective! Better to have a few well-connected competencies than a large list.

3. Online courses can no longer be completely self-guided and self-paced, so you'll need to include dates and times for synchronous online sessions (webinars, Google Hangouts, etc.) This is new, so another heads up in advance!

4. Be sure to connect your course content to the State Strategic Plan if you are working with teachers across the state. If you are working in a specific school, please connect to the school's strategic plan. You will want to proactively make connections now in addition to participants connecting to their school strategic plans.

**These are the consistent pieces that are needing revisions and will very likely keep the courses from being approved once I submit them. As a reference, feel free to use the manual found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zmUSHgNqgGl9PCAxaAgkWDl2FVEH5Xtejutvm3AxLew/edit. Page 4 has a checklist that could be helpful.

Please note: I am going on maternity leave after Friday so any revisions not submitted by tomorrow afternoon may be delayed into January.

Thanks for your continued work and patience as I know this is a bit of a transition. I am here to help field any questions and support you, so please contact me today or tomorrow if you have any concerns!

My best,
Brooke

Fwd: late portfolio for pd credits

Hi Teri:

It's not late portfolios.  How it works is when you submit grades and you have an incomplete, you can work with the participant to change their grade to complete.  You'll need to work with them to complete a passing portfolio…you have to submit the grade change to PDE3 within the 60 days from submitting grades.  Below is the link on PDE3 regarding the 60-day grade change.  Check on page 8 on the link below.

Thanks,

Yvette

Hi Yvette,

After receiving an email confirmation from Soo Boo or Kevin that the portfolios were approved for the course, we were able to submit any late or incomplete portfolios within 60 days of the email. Will this still be an option?

Fwd: TL183079 Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders | Section 290133

Greetings!

As the sponsor for your course, TL183079 Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders | Section 290133, I have reviewed the course and included suggested revisions below in order make the approval process as smooth as possible once the course is submitted.

Please submit any edits/corrections to me via email, and I will make the corrections to your online PD.

Geographic Availability is approved.

See comments below.

Course Details:

    • Consider working on the course description as it currently seems a little vague. You indicate that you will be focusing on Domains 4 & 7, but for what purpose and with what focus? For instance, you say the course will help participants "improve instructional practices and advocate for the teaching profession" but need to be more specific. These are great objectives to work towards, but if the course focus is on Global Education, please indicate what that means and how you will incorporate it in the course description.
    • If the course is fully online, please indicate in title of the course. Synchronous online opportunities for collaboration are recommended, but it looks like those will be built in. See below in Section for how to indicate dates for online meeting times.
    • If this course is open to a targeted audience (a particular school, complex area, etc.) please make note of it in the Course Notes.
• Please set competencies for this course (can be found in the drop-down menu provided on PDE3).

Section:
    •  For any synchronous webinars, online discussions, etc. please indicate dates and times in section. You may do so in the syllabus, but if you plan to teach the course again just include in the section notes to make resubmitting an easier process. Either way, make sure participants know when and how they will receive online support and opportunities for collaboration during the course.
Syllabus:
    • I realize you are using the objectives from the Teacher Leader Model Standards, but is there a way to streamline or condense these objectives? My hunch is that when I submit the course, they would rather see a few well-developed and condensed objectives than a long list. For instance, 7 and 8 could be condensed into one objective rather than two.
    • As this is a 3-credit course, you will want participants to demonstrate their own growth as well as impact on student learning. Please indicate in objectives and activities how participants might measure and convey impact on student learning. You might think about this also for portfolio contents as well as I know that when the course is submitted, the EO for PD will be looking for this.
    • You will want to provide dates interactive web-based activities (preferably in section notes, as indicated previously)
    • Reflection is mentioned often in the syllabus, and this is great—we want to encourage participants to be reflective practitioners. Could you include a short blurb on what reflection might entail for this course—how will participants reflect? What will it look like?

Program Plan

• Under Teacher Qualifications, please include years of teaching and any specific expertise that lends itself to the teaching of this course.
  • Under purpose, I know the EO will want you to describe the purpose in different language than you have used before. In other words, purpose and objectives should not be the same.

Elements of Quality PD:

• For Focus on Student Learning, please elaborate on how you will show impact on student work. (This goes along with above feedback for syllabus).

I am linking two documents you might find helpful below:
• Here is the PDE3 manual. This manual is in the process of being updated but in the meantime please refer to this document.
• Here is the PD credit & Non-PD credit Comparison Quicksheet. This document outlines some basic dos and don'ts for PD credit courses.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,
Brooke

Aloha Learners,

Nice job on your Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders portfolio.  I'll submit it along with the others that met the criteria on 12/7.  After that PDE3 will randomly select a few to review.  If yours is selected you may have to address things they find.
