Week 10-12: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Aloha,

With only 4 weeks left until the portfolios are due, it is time to host your online presentation! Good luck! I hope your session is a great learning experience for both you and your participants!

Here are the reminders for the next 3 week:

  1. Host your Online Presentation

  2. Complete this form to submit your recorded session: https://goo.gl/srk2kB

  3. Collect Evidence of Student Learning within these next few weeks. As a friendly reminder, please ensure that your student evidence shows impact. Your analysis must describe the growth or change in student learning. I also suggest explaining where the students or school started out (baseline data) and how that has changed from the teachers integrating the strategies you presented.

An important reminder, please plan accordingly as we near the portfolio due date, Friday, June 1. Keep in mind meeting the portfolio deadline allows you to receive PD credits when the course closes. To ensure you receive the PD credits this semester, I strongly encourage you to complete the portfolio on time.

Best,

Hi Ahlinn,
I just started a doctoral program and I won't be able to run the course in the fall. Looking ahead, I would be interested in running the course in the following semester in Spring 2018. Thank you!!

Week 9: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Learners,

This week, I suggest you test out the whole presentation from start to finish before your presentation. Try to get a friend, family member, or colleague to help you out with this so you can get feedback afterward. Or you can just pretend to be a participant on another computer and self-reflect on any necessary changes. This is a great opportunity to check that the web tools work, all the resources and links work and that you are able to record the session.

Here are the reminders for this week:

  1. Finish Unit 5 Step 4 & 5: Video and Material Prep and Practice

  2. Complete Unit 5: Step 6: Trial Run #1: Test out your presentation + Reflection

Just a reminder, please complete your 3rd google hangout to receive peer feedback by Saturday, April 28th.

If you have any questions about the assignments, feedback, or course requirements, feel free to reach me directly at (202) 810-3025

Week 8: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Greetings everyone,

As we move into week 8, you will start exploring online video conferencing platform to use for your online presentation. Keep in mind, your presentation will be recorded LIVE, so it is important to practice and rehearse!  Make sure you can help others navigate and troubleshoot with different features, and that you have a reliable contingency plan prepared. I've provided some tools for 1) live interaction, 3) sharing of resources, and 3) documentation, which are requirements for your presentation.

Here are this week's assignment reminders:

  1. Complete Unit 5: Step 4: Video Conference Tool Reflection

  2. Complete Unit 5: Step 5: Prepped Resources & Materials for the Presentation

Just a reminder, we have our last google hangout on Saturday, April 28th at 9am.  The session is devoted to get clarification on any final expectations and requirements, peer feedback if still needed, evidence of student learning, and get answers to other questions. Sessions usually run 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many questions we have.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email, text, or call me at the number below. If I should miss your call, please leave a message, telephone number, and indicate the best time to reach you, and I will call you back as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Week 7: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Hello Learners,

We are now passed the midpoint of our course, and I'm delighted to see such progress by this time! By the end of this week, you should also have a good idea for the recorded session you will hold. Remember you are advocating for student and school success by sharing global education resources, ideas, and strategies through an online platform. In the recorded presentation, we are looking for the use of web tools to share strategies and also to interact/maybe even collaborate with online participants. Possible interactive tools include q&a tools, chat boxes, or simply talking over the microphone. Our emphasis is the use of web tools to empower the presentation instead of just a recording tool.

Here are the requirements for Unit 5 Action Plan recorded session:

  • Your presentation must be 20 minutes minimum.

  • You must have online participants (faculty, colleagues, administration, state/district) attending your session.

  • You must have some interaction between presenter and participants

  • Must shares new resources, ideas, and strategies from this course (on global education) that meet the needs of your students and advocates for student and school success. Bonus to support with research!

  • The presentation must be recorded.

  • You will share the link AND collect evidence of student learning as part of the portfolio requirement.

  • Here is a link on Gathering Evidence of Student Learning: https://goo.gl/tXeRNG

Here are this week's reminders:

  1. Complete Unit 5: Step 2: Presentation Proposal Reflection

  2. Complete Unit 5: Step 3: Colleague Planning Reflection

Week 6: Global Education: Tools and Approaches Online PD

Aloha,

This week I suggest working on Unit 4. The objective for Unit 4 is that you experience a web conference through the lens of the audience before you become the presenter. Not all presentations will be highly beneficial to the school community, but some will be eye-opening! Not all presentations will be engaging or entertaining, but some will inspire you! The hope here is that you gain some experience in online presentations and web conferencing events whether they're successful or not. By experiencing and reflecting on another web conference, you will gain insight to help you plan (or revise) a web conference event you might have in mind. In addition to Unit 4's assignment, you will also begin the action plan in Unit 5. Remember, your action plan for this course is to hold an online presentation related to promoting global education, similar to the ones you will view in unit 4. The final product will be the recorded session of your presentation from start to finish.

Here are this week's assignment reminders:

  1. Complete Unit 4: Global Education Conference Recording Reflections

  2. Complete Unit 5: Step 1: Personal and School Profile

Just a reminder, we have our second google hangout on Saturday, April 7th at 9 am. The hangout session is devoted to get clarification on action plan requirements and expectations, possible presentation ideas, evidence of student learning, and get answers to other questions. Sessions usually run 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many questions we have.

Kind Regards,
