Subject: Fwd: Selected Portfolio for Course TL180999 Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders
Teri Ann,The submitted portfolio, for TL183079 Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders Online - (R) 290133 | HSTA Spring 2018 - Global Education: Tools and Approaches for Teacher Leaders (Online) | Feb 24, 2018 - Jun 29, 2018, has been reviewed and approved based on the current course requirements and the current Learning Results Portfolio requirements.
Credits will be issued to all participants who have completed the course.
Feedback to the instructor for future reference:
- Reflections should avoid focusing on what was read or what happened. Less time should be spent on giving a summary. Instead, the focus of the reflection should be on the connections, questions, possible applications. Then if needed, provide information from the article or describe what happened to support the reflection.
- Resources to review:
- PD Credit Course Approval Manual (The Essential Features of a Learning Results Portfolio and the Learning Results Portfolio Rubric)
- A Guide to Meaningful Reflections
- If this teacher is a classroom teacher, we should see classroom implementation. Remember 2-3 credit courses are for individual classroom impact. A large majority of the course focuses on building knowledge and less on the application of learning/implementation in the classroom.
- If you plan to offer this course again, I would highly recommend that the course focus is more on the change in teacher instructional practice and student learning especially as it relates to the previous bullet. the participant could still "teach" other teachers but it might make sense if the teacher does implementation/application first then focus on teaching others.
- The amount of evidence for implementation and application is limited. Might you consider the contents reflecting more application/implementation?
- the "trial run" is fine but not necessarily evidence of application/implementation, It could be a class assignment but not necessarily an LRP requirement.
- Student impact - How is this being measured? What are the targeted standards being assessed? Remember, in order to offer a PD credit course it must focus on standards-based instruction. Yet, the lesson and the "assessment" used to assess student impact was not standards-based.
- Also, please review the March 2018 approved updates to the PD Credit Course Approval Manual prior to offering this course again especially page 4. If needed, please work with your sponsor to strengthen the course to address individual teacher/classroom impact.
